The Last Horror Movie

The Last Horror Movie (2004): Let’s start out by admitting the title of this movie is a bald faced lie, it is not the last horror movie and not even the penultimate horror movie. It’s just a horror movie but one with quite a different twist on the serial killer genre. Produced in the UK for a minimum of guineas, it takes the form of a documentary filmed by the serial killer in question, showing all the nasty deeds he does. He is on screen for most of the movie explaining a bit about his philosophy, questioning the audience’s integrity for watching all the carnage and secretly enjoying it, and also discussing his ‘normal’ life. The cuts between his normal life and his serial killer life are quite contrasting and the actor (Kevin Howarth) does an excellent job portraying this madman as an intelligent gent with a bit of a mental problem. Filled with clever dialog and dark humor the movie is highly recommended, particularly if you want to see what can be done with minimum funding coupled with a good story, a video camera and decent actors. Though not rated, the flick would probably come in with an R for: massive deaths, multiple stabbings, multiple strangling, a suffocation or two, massive clubbing (not the nightclub type), and for the twist ending that should be a bit of a surprise.
